Star Patient

Mom, Dad and GrandMAW took me on a field trip last night! They gave me a Popsicle, a finger puppet and a little bracelet for my leg. As you can see, I was even awarded a prize for being a "Star Patient."

So how did I receive the honor of being deemed a Star Patient?

It started with me not really taking in any fluids for most of yesterday. I realize that this may have concerned some, but you've got to understand that I battling ear infections here. Plus, I have a little congestion in the nose. Imagine trying to suck all your meals through a straw when you can't breathe through your nose, and the sucking motion makes your ears sting. It wasn't a hunger strike or anything, I just felt so crummy.

When I woke up at about 10:00 during my evening sleep time, I was not in a good mood. I was hungry, but didn't want to eat. I was really tired, but didn't want to sleep. You can imagine how torn I felt emotionally. I was a crawling contradiction.

Mom talked to someone on the phone and suddenly we were in the car going on the above referenced field trip. Dad drove Mom, GrandMAW and I to Children's Hospital. (That's right. Dad stayed up past 10:00 to go on the field trip with us.) Thank goodness GrandMAW was in town for the weekend, or she could have missed out on the exciting evening.

We walked into the ER at Children's Hospital and there were lots of people in the waiting room. Lots of people, but no Hospital helpers. So, we stood there at the empty reception's desk. We waited. Then, we waited some more. And, a little more waiting.

As we were preparing to leave, a nurse that came out to call another patient asked if we had been helped. It was too late. I can't be expected to wait that long just to be told to wait in the waiting room. That's lots of waiting for a little person like me. Plus, I did not see any balloons or finger puppets.

So, we drove to Methodist Hospital. Because I'm getting a little tired, and rather emotionally drained, telling you this tale, I'll just leave it at this: I was carried into the ER, promptly told how cute I was, given a finger puppet and shown to my private suite. Then I was honored with the prized red balloon of Star Patientness.

Overall, not a bad little field trip.

Best part is that my ears are feeling better, making it more pleasant to eat, and I have been able to sleep more soundly. Things are certainly looking up.
